“Working at sunrise and resting at sunset” describes the stable rhythm of life in agrarian society. With the invention of electric light, however, human routines gradually changed. People were able to work longer hours, and the increase in productivity further drove economic development. Yet, at the same time, the human circadian rhythm was disrupted, contributing to depression and insomnia.

Even in today’s scientific world, the question “Does light have weight?” remains one that cannot be precisely described. In the world of everyday life, however, while light illuminates all things, it also carries a weight that governs human physiology and psychology, and even shapes economic and social structures.

Light up and down consists of a seesaw, a cement sphere, and a pendant lamp. When the lamp gradually lights up, the seesaw tilts toward the side of the light; conversely, when the lamp gradually dims, the seesaw tilts toward the side of the cement sphere. Through the changing brightness of the light and the imagery of the seesaw, the work responds to an imagination of the weight of light.

Light up and down作品由蹺蹺板、水泥球體、吊燈組成,當燈漸漸亮起時,蹺蹺板傾倒於燈的一側,反之當燈漸漸熄滅時,蹺蹺板則傾倒於水泥球體的那一側。
